BCP Council launches new phone app for local recycling centres

Residents across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole will now be able to check how busy their local recycling centre is prior to their visit by downloading BCP Tip Check: a brand new phone app.  The phone app, available to both Apple and Android devices, has been developed by BCP Council. The handy app has been designed to let residents know how busy their local recycling centre is before leaving home. The app, via a traffic light system, will include live information about current queues, to help residents avoid visiting when a centre is already busy. BCP Council worked with smart systems specialist, Xpertnest on this brand new technology, which was created in response to help tackle road congestion in and around the council’s three main recycling centres. Bournemouth awarded the renewal of purple flag status for 2021/2022

Bournemouth is officially celebrating once more after receiving the news that the town has again been awarded the prestigious Purple Flag accreditation for its evening and night-time economy for 2021/2022. Four new electric refuse vehicles are now collecting waste across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

Earlier trials proved very successful, with reduced noise benefits and excellent drivability, whilst the carbon yearly saving numbers were very impressive. Councillor Mark Anderson, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Waste, BCP Council, said: “We made a clear commitment to our residents that we would make Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole cleaner, greener and safer for everyone. A new place for waste news.

The most frequent questions Councillor Anderson is asked as the Environment Portfolio holder, are about bins. Whether, it’s not being collected, days they should be collected or that a bin has gone missing. And while he is always happy to resolve the issues there is now a bin update page which should help with most enquiries about the bins. When for any reason the waste team are unable to empty the bins on a particular road, details of the missed roads will be posted on the page. If your bin has been missed, then the advice is to leave the bin out on the kerbside ready for collections the team will try and catch up as soon as possible. There are also some useful links about waste collection days and how…
