Bins and recycling collections

Christmas waste collections 2021

Your rubbish, recycling and food waste collections will continue as normal over the festive period with your usual collection days remaining the same.

Our collection crews will be out collecting as normal on the Bank Holidays including Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December 2021 and Monday 3 January 2022.

Please place your bin(s) out at the kerbside by 5am on your usual collection day, so they are clearly visible to our collection crews.

Extra rubbish and recycling

We do not take extra bags of rubbish or recycling that are placed on top of or next to your bin. Please take any extra rubbish and recycling to our Recycling Centres at:

  • Nuffield Road, Poole (BH17 0RS)
  • Millhams, Longham (BH11 9LQ)
  • Wilverley Road, Christchurch (BH23 3RU)

All sites are closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

See our top tips to help reduce your festive waste this Christmas.

Commercial waste

Commercial waste collection crews for refuse and recycling will be operating as normal over the festive period (including during the bank holidays).

The commercial weighbridges at Millhams and Nuffield will be closed to trade customers from 4pm Thursday 23 December 2021 and reopening on Tuesday 4 January 2022.

Other waste arrangements

Bin deliveries, bulky collections (Poole and Christchurch) and skips (Poole) will be closed from Monday 27 December 2021 and reopening Tuesday 4 January 2022.

Garden waste service

Across the BCP Council area, over 14,158 tonnes of garden waste have been collected and composted over the last year up to October 2021.

The season runs until December, but residents who want to receive collections in 2022 can now register for the service securely online. To ensure you receive all 22 collections in 2022, please register by 17 December 2021.

If you decide not to join the 2022 collection service or have extra garden waste to dispose of, you can recycle it for free at one of our Household Recycling Centres. Alternatively, you can compost your garden waste at home, using a compost bin – find out more about composting here.

Compost your Christmas tree

In many locations, for a small donation, you can arrange for your Christmas tree to be collected by a couple of local charities, Diverse Abilities and Lewis Manning.

Please check if they are collecting in your area and book early to arrange your collection to avoid disappointment.

Diverse Abilities

Diverse Abilities will be collecting in the following postcodes BH1-BH18, BH21, BH23 1, BH23 2, BH23 3 and BH31. Collections run from Saturday 8 – Monday 10 January 2022.

Lewis Manning

Lewis Manning will be collecting from postcodes BH1 through to BH23. Collections run from Saturday 8 January – Friday 14 January 2022.

Alternatively, you can take your Christmas tree to Upton Country Park for composting. Residents will be able to bring their real trees to be recycled in the entrance car park at Upton Country Park from 27 December 2021 to 10 January 2022. Please note we only accept real trees.
